 | Monogram 1/48 "Vought OS2U Kingfisher" This vintage kit was purchased from ebay, and although complete, it had been stored in an area that fostered a chemical change in the plastic, which had become extrememly "brittle", almost to an "egg shell" consistency! The left/lower wing half broke in 2 places; the right horizontal stabilizer broke at the root; one of the pilot's legs broke off, so I had to proceed with kid gloves (and Gorilla Super Glue Gel), fortunately, the perseverance paid off and it made a nice looking model! See additional photos HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE
 | Academy 1/72 "Chengdu J7" This vintage kit was purchased from ebay, and although complete, it had to have some surgery to be visually accurate, namely, adding a drag chute blister just below the rudder, building up the dorsal spine, and making the canopy rear hinged, instead of front hinged. See additional photos HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE

 | Lindberg 1/72 "Vought OS2U Kingfisher" This 1967 vintage mold had it's share of inaccuracies; I first built one like this back in 1986 so I thought I'd have another go at it, but this time I (1) opened the canopy, (2) detailed the interior, (3) surgically altered the pilot figures, (4) opened the cowl flaps, (5) dropped the wing flaps ten degrees, (6) thinned the wing float struts, (7) added main float support cables, (8) added the exhaust stacks, and (9) rebuilt the propeller. | 1/72 Revell "Yak-38 Forger" This old kit had it's share of inaccuracies; I built it back in 1989 when we lived at Matney's, so I thought I'd have another go at it, but this time I (1) Thermoformed a new canopy, (2) shortened the nose, (3) rebuilt the main gear doors, (4) relocated the nose gear strut, (5) re-shaped the exhaust ports, and (6) re-shaped the jet intakes. | 1/72 Airfix "MiG-17F" Flown extensively by the Vietnamese People's Air Force during the Vietnam War; in the right hands they were devistating! This one is on public display at the USS Alabama Battleship memorial in Mobile, Alabama, and although this particular airframe was never used by the VPAF, it's the only "MiG-17F" Aaron and I ever got to touch, so that was good enough reason to build a model depicting it! (see the last photo) See additional photos HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE

 | 1/48 Revell "MiG-21PF" One night in 1978, #1212 was being flown by Czechoslovakian Air Force Maj. Zdenek Nohava doing intercept training with other MiG-21's, when he had a mid-air collision with another plane at 22,000 ft., damaging both aircraft severely. Miraculously they were able to get back to the airfield in Mošnov, where Maj. Nohava claimed to know nothing of what had occurred! The other badly damaged MiG soon came in, and he too seemed genuinely shocked when shown the damage and told about the mid-air. Considering the strictness of the Czech Air Force rules of that time, I'm guessing they both agreed on the way down that if they make it back alive, to just play dumb to avoid any disciplinary action. In any case, both were extremely fortunate to have survived! (Maj. Nohava is in the last picture... I actually got to communicate with him online during this project, and turns out he is a VERY accomplished modeler also!) See additional photos HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE,

 | 1/48 Revell "MiG-21PFM" A Navy Admiral who flew in Vietnam spoke of the VPAF pilots; "They were a mixture of very good to very poor; some would be an asset in any fighter squadron. Two such aces flew #5020 and shared six kills each in this aircraft. See additional photos HERE, and HERE
